Choral Masses (1).png — Past Choral MAsses

In the Fall of 2018, Blessed Sacrament Parish embarked on a liturgical journey with the introduction of a series of Choral Masses celebrated on the first Sunday of each month (temporarily suspended during COVID-19). Check out our past Choral Masses below.

On First Sundays as well as most Feasts and Solemnities, our Schola Cantorum will resound the liturgical works of such lauded composers as Hans Leo Hassler, Joseph and Michael Haydn, Antonio Lotti, Claudio Monteverdi, Amadeus Mozart, Giovanni Palestrina, and Tomás Luis de Victoria - all in the acoustics of our historic Sanctuary.

Our Schola Cantorum will frequently be accompanied by the accomplished members of our resident Baroque Orchestra and Sackbut Ensemble on period instruments.

January 2019 Choral Mass

To celebrate the Feast of the Epiphany, the Blessed Sacrament Schola Cantorum, Soloists, and Baroque Orchestra presented Dalitz’s Missa Tribus Vocibus, Charpentier’s Epiphany Cantata, and motets by Allegri and Palestrina.

February 2019 Choral Mass

To celebrate the Feast of the Presentation (Candlemas), the Blessed Sacrament Schola Cantorum, Sackbut Ensemble, and Baroque Orchestra presented Victoria’s Missa in C Major, and motets by Eccard, Gabrieli, Lassus, and Sweelinck.

March 2019 Choral Mass

The March Choral Mass featured the Blessed Sacrament Schola Cantorum and Baroque Orchestra offering the Missa Brevis in G Major by Roman Catholic composer Franz Joseph Haydn (1732 - 1809).

April 2019 Choral Mass

April's Choral Mass featured Blessed Sacrament’s Schola Cantorum, Soloists, and Sackbut Ensemble presenting Lotti's Missa in D Minor and motets by Byrd and Palestrina.

May 2019 Choral Mass

May's Choral Mass featured Blessed Sacrament’s Schola Cantorum and Sackbut Ensemble presenting Palestrina's Missa Pape Marcelli, with motets by Croce and Hassler.

June 2019 Choral Mass

June’s Choral Mass featured Blessed Sacrament’s Schola Cantorum and Sackbut Ensemble presenting Hassler’s Missa Secunda Toni, and motets by Hans Leo Hassler and Samuel Webbe.

Master of the Venetian "polychoral" style, organist and composer Hans Leo Hassler has penned many of our Church's most renowned and memorable Mass Settings and sublime Motets for the Liturgy.

July 2019 Choral Mass

July’s Choral Mass featured Blessed Sacrament’s Schola Cantorum and Sackbut Ensemble, presenting Croce’s Missa Prima Sexti Toni, and motets by Croce, Lassus and Palestrina.

Mass for the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary in the Dominican Rite

To celebrate the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary, Blessed Sacrament’s Schola Cantorum and Sackbut Ensemble presented Palestrina’s Missa Assumpta Est Maria, and motets by Monteverdi and Gibbons.

September 2019 Choral Mass

September’s Choral Mass featured Blessed Sacrament’s Schola Cantorum, Soloists, and Baroque Orchestra presenting Mozart’s Missa Brevis in C Major KV 258 (Spaur Mass), with motets by Salieri, Beethoven and M. Haydn.

October 2019 Choral Mass in the Dominican Rite

To celebrate the Feast of the Our Lady of the Rosary, Blessed Sacrament’s Schola Cantorum and Sackbut Ensemble will present Monteverdi’s Missa in F Major, and motets by Monteverdi.

November 2019 Choral Mass

November’s Choral Mass will feature Blessed Sacrament’s Schola Cantorum, Soloists, and Baroque Orchestra, presenting Michael Haydn’s Missa Sanctus Gabrielis, and motets by Michael Haydn.

Dominican All Souls (Mass in the Dominican Rite)

For Dominican All Soul’s Mass, Blessed Sacrament’s Schola Cantorum and Sackbut Ensemble presented Victoria’s Requiem Mass in F (Victoria).

To celebrate the Feast of the Epiphany, Blessed Sacrament's Schola Cantorum & Sackbut Ensemble presented Monteverdi's Missa Brevis in F and motets by Scheidt & Palestrina.

February 2020 Choral Mass

To celebrate the Feast of the Presentation (Candlemas), Blessed Sacrament’s Schola Cantorum & Sackbut Ensemble will present Caldara’s Missa Brevis in G and motets by Johannes Eccard & Giovanni Francesco Anerio.

March 2020 Choral Mass

Blessed Sacrament’s Chancel Choir, Orchestra, and Sackbut Ensemble presented Mozart’s Missa Brevis in d K65, and motets by Mozart and M. Haydn.
