Youngjin Joo

Assistant Organist

Youngjin Joo is an organist, pianist, and collaborative artist with a profound love for keyboard instruments. Her musical journey began in childhood when she explored the piano keys on her mother's lap, guided by her first mentor—her mother. During her senior year of high school, her parish pastor introduced her to the organ, igniting a deep and lasting passion for both the piano and the organ. Originally from Korea, Youngjin earned a bachelor’s degree in composition/theory before pursuing graduate studies in music education at Seoul National University. She then further studied and holds with a master’s degree in Organ Performance from the University of Washington. Youngjin has extensive experience in music ministry, having served in various capacities at Seoul Myeongdong Cathedral in Korea and in churches and the religious community across Connecticut, Pennsylvania, and Washington in the US. She currently holds the position of music director at St. Philomena in Des Moines. She is dedicated to supporting and encouraging congregational singing through hymn accompaniment, promoting full, active, and conscious participation in the liturgy. Her commitment to fostering singing extends beyond liturgical settings; she is the staff accompanist for the Northwest Girlchoir and the Northwest Chamber Chorus and provides dance accompaniment for the Pacific Northwest Ballet School. Youngjin eagerly looks forward to sharing her passion with the community of Blessed Sacrament.
