Trumpet Campaign

It has been two years since the installation of the magnificent, “Ruth and Paul Manz Organ!” This moves us ever closer completing a century-long desire to have a suitable instrument to facilitate the right worship of God in music at our liturgies. What you might not remember is that part of this project was to come after the initial installation of the organ. Our contract for the installation included addition of a special set of pipes called a “horizontal trumpet.” As my wife is fond of saying, it does what it says on the tin: these pipes will stick out 8 feet horizontally from the small ledge on the front of the loft. This unique and somewhat rare rank (this is the term organists use to describe a group of like pipes) will add festivity to our most exciting and joyous celebrations, as well as increase the general usefulness of this already stunning organ. We are excited to announce finally announce that these pipes will be arriving and playable by beginning of September!

I want to encourage you to be a part of this thrilling part of our parish’s future. Yes,  the organ fulfills the dreams of those who came before us, but it is also a statement of our hope for the future of this community of faith. This instrument is a durable and lasting testament to the fellowship we share in the communion of Christ both with each other and with those who worshipped here before and, indeed, with those who will worship here after we have gone from this space. This organ is a declaration not only of the importance of our faith, but a statement of our support for future generations observance of it.

It takes, of course, the entire community to make this statement possible. We have about $75,000 to raise to fully fund this last phase of the organ’s installation, and it will take gifts large and small from this entire inspiring community, to put the finishing touch on what is already becoming one of Seattle’s most talked about new organs. There are a few details I want to be sure that you know as you consider contributing.

First, we encourage you to consider sponsoring a pipe. For $1,300 you can donate one of the 58 pipes in this trumpet rank. When the trumpets arrive, we will invite pipe to have their picture taken with that pipe and received that photo framed with a note which exact pipe you’ve donated. There are other perks to sponsorship, including a special concert and free season tickets that you can read about in the e-blast from this week, or you can chat with me after Mass – [please feel free to come up to the loft during the postlude so that I can show you the plan!]

Second, we are exceeding grateful to two donors who have stepped up and agreed to match all donations up to $10,000 each, meaning that the first $20,000 given to the project will be doubled to help us reach $40,000. 

Third, we do not need the totality of your gift up front. We are happy to accept pledges over a 6-month period, so there’s no need to feel a time crunch.

And finally, please remember that there is no donation too small to help! Part of the beauty of the church is that having many people contribute in many ways makes  possible grand statements about our belief our hope for its future that no single person or small group of people could undertake. No gift, and I mean that, no gift, is too small to help. On average, over 1,000 people worship here each week. Many are kids or couples, so let’s divide that number in half. If 500 people all gave just $150, which is just $25 a month for six months, we would make our goal.
