Thomas Colburn
Dr. Thomas Colburn, countertenor/tenor, fell in love with Gregorian chant and sacred polyphony back in 2019. He founded and directed the St. Pius X Schola in Redwood City from 2020-2025. He has formerly been a regular member of Prof. Jennifer Donelson-Nowicka's Schola at Mater Dolorosa Parish (tenor). He has received extensive training in Gregorian chant through the Catholic Institute of Sacred Music and limited but treasured study with the late Prof. Bill Mahrt.
Outside of singing, Thomas is a classically trained saxophonist where he performed with the Stanford University Wind Symphony as section leader for nearly a decade with his solo debut playing Michael Colgrass's Urban Requiem. He also was a long-time member of Prof. David Henderson's studio where he won three Department of Music Awards for solo and chamber performances.
Professionally, Thomas is a Materials Research Scientist investigating next-generation wearable electronics. He earned his PhD and MS in Materials Science and BS with Honors in Chemical Engineering from Stanford University. He completed a short post-doc before moving to Seattle in early 2026.
