Tenor

Skylar Derthick is a graduate of Rider University, where he earned his undergraduate degree in Popular Music Studies in Music Production (2023). He studied DJing, mixing and mastering, and audio engineering while also receiving a concentration in 20th century music history. He later continued his education at Westminster Choir College earning a master’s degree in Choral Conducting (2025). He was mentored by world renowned Dr. James Jordan of Same Stream and Dr. Donald Nally of The Crossing in his choral conducting studies, having sung professionally at venues like Carnegie Music Hall, singing in St. Luke’s Orchestra’s Carmina Burana. Whilst in New Jersey, he worked for the Archdiocese of Trenton at St. Dominic’s School as a member of their professional Schola Cantorum of the Blessed Virgin Mary and instructed their youth choir as a student conductor. Skylar relocated to Seattle last year and is thrilled to be apart of this pristine Catholic music program in The Cantorei. Skylar is now an active teacher in Seattle, teaching music for St. Monica’s Summer Bible Camp and private K12 English in Bellevue. Outside of the Cantorei, Skylar is a passionate Catholic, a long distance runner and reader, and an aspiring sacred music composer. He offers all he does “Ad Majorem Gloria Dei” and thanks his family and friends for their never ending support.
