About the Retreat

How does one continue to hope in the Lord when prayers seem to go unanswered? Despite the difficulties St. Catherine of Siena faced in her life and in the Church, her hope was placed not in herself, but in the Lord God who worked mighty deeds through her. Join us as we learn from this woman — ablaze with hope — how we can grow in hope.

About Our Speaker

Sister Gabriella Yi, O.P., is a Dominican Sister of St. Cecilia from Nashville. Originally from Seoul, she grew up near Philadelphia. Having written her dissertation on spiritual motherhood according to St. Catherine of Siena, she received her Doctorate in Sacred Theology from the Angelicum in 2013. She is currently teaching theology at Aquinas College in Nashville and loves leading retreats. Sister Gabriella has led five retreats for women in the Archdiocese of Seattle, including one for Mary and Elizabeth Ministry in 2018. She is thrilled to return and speak on St. Catherine, so near to the feast of this great Dominican saint and Doctor of the Church!

Frequently Asked Questions

  • I’m not Catholic. May I still attend the retreat? You would be very welcome at the retreat! Although the talks are by a Dominican Sister and focus on a Catholic saint, they are applicable to all who are trying to grow in their faith. In addition, there will be opportunities to meet other women and time set aside for prayer and/or personal reflection. You are welcome to attend as many (or as few) of the retreat sessions as you'd like.

  • Will food be provided at the retreat? Yes! Wine, non-alcoholic beverages, and hor d'oeuvres will be provided during happy hour on Friday and Saturday evenings. Breakfast pastries and lunch will be provided on Saturday. Please indicate any food allergies or restrictions on your registration form. We can also store some items in a refrigerator as needed. We are happy to accommodate!

  • I have difficulties with mobility. Is this event accessible? Most of our events will take place in the main auditorium of St. Benedict’s Catholic School, which is located on the second floor of the school building. To access the auditorium, you will need to be able to ascend and descend approximately 15 steps on foot. Bathrooms are located on a separate floor. Due to the age of the building, there is no elevator access.

  • May I bring my child? “Babes in arms” are welcome at the retreat! Please let us know on the registration form if you will need a mother’s room.

  • Should I bring anything to the retreat? Feel free to bring your journal, rosary and/or Bible for use during times of adoration or personal reflection.
