Emili Rice

Soprano

Emili Rice is a soprano deeply passionate about opera and classical music. After making her operatic debut as the First Spirit in Mozart’s Die Zauberflöte with Seattle Opera in 2017, she went on to pursue her formal music education. Emili holds a Bachelor of Music degree from McGill University, where she studied with Dominique Labelle, and a Master of Music from the San Francisco Conservatory of Music (SFCM) under the tutelage of Susanne Mentzer. Her current voice teacher is Joanna Ruszala, whom she met while studying at the American Institute of Musical Studies (AIMS) in Graz, Austria. Along the way, Emili was also certified as a Level 1 Combatant in both unarmed and single rapier stage combat.

Easily at home on the opera stage, her notable roles include Gretel in Hansel and Gretel (Northwest Opera in Schools, Etcetera), Cleopatra in Handel’s Giulio Cesare (Saluzzo Opera Academy), and the title role in Pauline Viardot’s Cendrillon (SFCM). She is currently a staff singer in the Cantorei Ensemble at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church and performs throughout Washington as a member of the Memphis Belles, a vintage vocal trio inspired by the Andrews Sisters. As a concert soloist, Emili enjoys performing larger works, including Handel’s Messiah and Haydn’s The Creation.
