Theology of the Body Discussion Group
"God is love, and he who abides in love abides in God, and God abides in him." -1 John 4:16, also the first line in Deus Caritas Est by Pope Benedict XVI.
Are you between the ages of 20 and 35 and interested in joining a discussion group on the Theology of the Body using recent papal texts? The format will be centered on discussion, rather than instruction, so we encourage people from all levels of knowledge to join us. We will gather on Wednesdays at 7:30 PM, beginning May 14th, at 5034 - 8th Ave NE, next door to Blessed Sacrament church. There is no cost for joining, but please purchase a copy of the pope's Encyclical entitled "Deus Caritas Est" available at bookstores or free on the Vatican website: http://www.vatican.va
Space is limited, so if you're interested, please email:
Mark Sherman: <msherman20@hotmail.com>
or Monica Oberlin: <monicaoberlin@gmail.com>.

"The Girl Who Was Thirsty: How G. K. Chesterton Led Me to Faith"
Dawn Eden
Author, editor and columnist
How did an agnostic, Jewish rock historian, who battled depression while living
a dissipated lifestyle among New York's bohemia, become a cheerful Catholic
chastity crusader? Dawn Eden, author of The Thrill of the Chaste and
winner of the American Chesterton Society's 2007 Outline of Sanity Award, tells
how an unexpected encounter with the work of Chesterton introduced her to the
thrilling romance of orthodoxy.
Thursday, May 15, 2008, at 7:30 PM in Conference Room 109, Otto Miller Hall (building 18), at the Seattle Pacific University campus (http://www.spu.edu/info/maps/index.html)
Prayers for Peace
Come
join members of the Peace and Justice Committee on Wednesdays after the
5:30 PM Mass (around 6:00 PM). We will be praying for peace in Iraq and the Middle East, and reading a litany of names of our fallen soldiers, as well as Iraqi
victims of the war. We are meeting near the alcove of Our Lady of Perpetual
Help, which is in the SE corner of the nave, and invoking her intercession for
peace.
This is now monthly - more information on the day of the month coming soon!
Young Adult Dinners
The young adults gather every Sunday after the 5:45PM Mass to go out for dinner (except when there's a potluck). Meet up in the back of the church.
Blessed Sacrament T-Shirts
You asked for them, we got 'em! For a limited* time, the Blessed Sacrament Young Adult Council will be selling some sweet T-Shirts! These T-Shirts are in the popular softball style, with black sleeves and a white torso, with the seal of the Dominican order and the name of our beloved parish. They're so cool you'll want two of them (especially if, like me, you don't do laundry very often)!
With the low price of $12 per shirt, these are a sure bet for showing your pride in belonging to one of the best parishes in the Pacific Northwest (or sometimes going to, or knowing someone who goes to, or even having a cat that sometimes walks near Blessed Sacrament). Makes a great gift, too!
To get your hands on a T-Shirt, you can get the order form at this site: http://www.datsoc.com/order-form.pdf
* limited time, in that we won't be selling them for all eternity :-)
Name That Heresy Saint!
Last week's saint was St. Catherine of Siena, known as the saint who worked with Pope Urban VI to end the Great Schism of 1378. She was declared a Doctor of the Church in 1970. Sheila and Rachel W came in neck and neck for the answer, with Sheila ahead by 2 (!) minutes! St. Catherine, pray for us!
This week’s saint isn't actually a canonized saint, though many think it won't be long. He is well known for his theology surrounding the development of Church doctrine specifically from the First Vatican Council. He's also well known for his work with universities.

Please send announcements to Louis by Friday evening. Announcements will likely be edited (Louis likes to get his hands dirty). The Young Adult Council reserves the right to reject any and all announcements (for those of you keeping track, yeah, we're still working on this). The more work you put into your announcement before you send it in, the less goofy Louis will make it look when he applies his "creativity" to it.
Louis is enjoying his happy Nyquil fun.
